Mt. Biking: Around Felixstowe Wind Direction: Wind Stength: Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: Sea Temperature: Weather: sunny but chilly Max Speed: 18.48 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 14.65 mile (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Friday 21st January – bike **** – Around Felixstowe including lunch
with ‘Emily’ – sunny with a chilly breeze.
With a sunny day forecast Mag and I were keen to head over to Falkenham
Church again to check the progress of the snowdrops. So usual morning at
home doing my exercises including some new ones to try and sort out my
dodgy heel before I made a chicken sandwich and flask leaving home at
11.45. With not a cloud in the sky and the sea flat calm we headed down to
the seafront first which to be honest was a bit of a mistake as it was very
busy but we took it slowly and were fine. At The Fludgers we headed inland
to get away from the crowds taking Church Lane past the old church with the
tree starting to blossom then down Marsh Lane past the delict house to
Kings Fleet. This time we went up onto the River Deben path heading
upstream with loads of waders about including a large flock of Dunlins
feeding in the mud:) The path was in quite good condition, not muddy and it
is always beautiful biking out this way with its fantastic scenery. There
were a few walkers about but generally it was really peaceful as we reached
the second turning inland to Fakenham reaching the church at one and were
lucky once again to get our seat with ‘Emily’. Before our yummy picnic
I went to take some pics of the snowdrops spotting a squirrel on the way,
although they were better than last week, they are still not at their best
but managed to get a few OK shots and was lucky enough to get one on
ITV’s About Anglia weather this even, always pleasing:) It is great
sitting here with great views down to the River Deben with loads of birds
in the trees including some Long-Tailed Tits. Well rested we carried on
still mainly using country lanes to Kirton but the breeze was now a tad on
the chilly side especially in the shade of the hedgerows! Over the A 14 to
Trimley and down Grimston Lane spotting at least 20 deer including a couple
of white ones, sadly they were quite along way off but as always it is
great to see them. Over the huge footbridge over the railway line reaching
Blofield past the massive warehouse and home. So, another top bike ride
being out 3 hours covering over 14 miles in winter sunshine. Then I learned
over a cuppa and cake that one of my pics was on the cover of the local
free magazine, Spotlight on Felixstowe, it’s been several months since
the last the last one and as always, its much appreciated:) so along with
the TV pic its been a good day!
